Google, Apple, or Microsoft: What’s Best for Small Business?
What Platform Should You Bet Your Business On?
If you’re running a small business, you’re not just choosing a phone or a laptop — you’re choosing a system to run your entire operation. Email, calendars, file storage, customer communication, invoicing… it all has to work smoothly, securely, and without wasting your time or money.
At MicroManaged Media, we don’t just recommend tools — we use them every day. Personally, I run my business entirely on Chromebooks and Pixel phones. That’s not a gimmick. It’s because Google’s ecosystem gives small businesses the best bang for their buck. Let me explain why — and how that compares to Apple and Microsoft.
Google: Built for Speed, Simplicity, and Small Business
Google’s tools — Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Calendar — were built for the web. No software to install, no expensive licenses, no crashing hard drives. Just log in and go.
On a Chromebook, I can run everything I need in the cloud. Need to send an invoice? Draft a contract? Share a file? Jump on a call? It all works, fast. And since I use a Pixel phone, the sync between mobile and desktop is seamless.
For small business owners, especially those in the field (plumbers, HVAC techs, fence builders), Google Workspace is ideal. It’s low cost, reliable, and doesn’t require an IT department.
Apple: Polished, Premium… and Pricey
Apple fans love the smooth interface, beautiful design, and seamless syncing between iPhone, iPad, and Mac. And I get it — it’s a good experience.
But for small contractors or hands-on business owners, Apple’s price tag and repair costs are hard to justify. And if you’re trying to collaborate with people outside the Apple bubble, you’ll hit friction fast.
Microsoft: Still the Powerhouse of the Desktop World
Microsoft 365 gives you full-featured apps like Outlook, Word, and Excel, plus cloud access via OneDrive and Teams. It’s a solid choice if your business runs on complex spreadsheets or needs traditional desktop software.
But if you don’t need that level of horsepower — and most local businesses don’t — it’s overkill. You’ll end up paying for tools you never use.
What I Recommend
If you want speed, simplicity, and a lower monthly tech bill, go with Google. I use it to run my agency, and I recommend it to the blue-collar service companies I manage PPC campaigns for.
- Google Workspace + Chromebooks + Pixel = lean, fast, affordable.
- Apple is great if you’re a designer or in a creative field.
- Microsoft is best if your business is deeply embedded in the Office ecosystem.
